The Radiation Bogey is a short book/pamphlet by the engineer and author Petr Beckmann, published by his own Golem Press.
Overview
Beckmann argues that widespread public fear of low-level ionizing radiation — the "radiation bogey" — is greatly exaggerated relative to the actual risks, and that this fear has been used to obstruct nuclear power. Making "apples-to-apples" comparisons of risks, he contends that the hazards of nuclear energy are small compared with those of the alternatives, echoing the argument of his better-known The Health Hazards of Not Going Nuclear (1976).
About the author
Petr Beckmann (1924–1993) was a Czech-American professor of electrical engineering at the University of Colorado, a libertarian, and an advocate of nuclear power. He founded Golem Press and the newsletter Access to Energy, wrote the popular A History of Pi, and — relevant to this wiki — founded the journal Galilean Electrodynamics to promote his Lorentzian, aether-based alternative to Einstein's relativity.
