Einstein and the New Science is a 1921 pamphlet by the engineer and educator Arvid Reuterdahl, published by the College of St. Thomas (St. Paul, Minnesota).
Overview
Written at the height of the post-1919 public excitement over relativity, the pamphlet presents Reuterdahl's sharp opposition to Einstein's theory. He argues against the philosophical and physical basis of relativity and promotes instead his own "new science" — a broad, unified approach opposed to what he saw as the excessive abstraction of modern physics. Reuterdahl also advanced (highly disputed) priority and plagiarism claims against Einstein. The work is a historical document of the organized anti-relativity movement of the early 1920s.
About the author
Arvid Reuterdahl (1876–1933) was a Swedish-American engineer, educator, and dean at the College of St. Thomas and later the Ramsey Institute of Technology. A prominent early opponent of relativity, he founded the "Academy of Nations," edited a science column in Henry Ford's Dearborn Independent, and became known for his combative attacks on Einstein.
