Category:Electromagnetism
This category collects work on electromagnetism: the behaviour of electric and magnetic fields, the form and interpretation of Maxwell's equations, and the force laws governing charges and currents.
Much of the material here turns on questions the standard treatment regards as settled. Should Maxwell's equations be written with partial or total time derivatives — the neo-Hertzian question? Does the Ampère force law, with its longitudinal forces along current streamlines, describe reality better than the Lorentz force? What is the physical status of the vector potential? Is there a genuine difficulty in unipolar induction and the Faraday paradox? Are there magnetic monopoles, or longitudinal electromagnetic waves?
Entries include reformulations of Maxwell's equations, Weber and Ampère force-law work, induction experiments, and analyses of the classical experiments. Closely related: Category:Electrodynamics, which covers the wider theoretical framework, and Category:Light.
