Wayne L. Nowland is an Australian physicist and independent researcher based in Pottsville, New South Wales, Australia. Holding a doctorate in physics, he began his career in microwave and satellite-communications propagation research and later turned to independent work spanning Physics, Metaphysics, Holistic Science and Renewable Energy.
Biography
Nowland trained as a physicist and earned a PhD in the field. In the 1970s he worked on radiowave propagation, co-authoring research on the relationship between rain-induced depolarization and attenuation on earth–space microwave paths. During the 1980s he was associated with the development of AUSSAT, Australia's first national communications satellite system, contributing technical descriptions of the system and studies relevant to its second generation.
In later years Nowland has worked as an independent researcher, describing himself as a principal researcher associated with the Australian venture Tri Guna Innovations. He resides in Pottsville, on the far north coast of New South Wales.
Work
Nowland's early technical work concerned propagation impairments on satellite communication links. With R. L. Olsen and I. P. Shkarofsky he presented an approximate theoretical relationship between rain depolarization and attenuation, valid for earth–space paths at microwave and millimetre wavelengths; the resulting formula was subsequently used by other researchers to derive approximations for cross-polarization on satellite paths. He also published descriptions of the AUSSAT national satellite system and its planned services.
His more recent independent research addresses topics at the intersection of physics and philosophy, including consciousness science, holistic and "holographic" approaches to space and physics, metaphysics, and renewable energy. He has posted work through independent research-sharing platforms such as Academia.edu and ResearchGate.
