Victor W. Hatch (February 25, 1931 – October 31, 2019) was an American electronics engineer, inventor, author, and musician who proposed that gravity is fundamentally an electrical force. Largely self-educated in electronics, he worked for much of his career in high-power industrial electronics and later developed a theory linking gravitation, matter, and electricity within the framework of the electric universe.
Biography
Victor William Hatch was born on February 25, 1931, in Alva, Oklahoma, the fourth of thirteen children of Richard Verni Hatch and Elma Lottie Hatch. He grew up during the Great Depression on farms in northwestern Oklahoma and southwestern Kansas, and received his high school diploma from Nash, Oklahoma, in 1948. During the Korean War he served four years in the United States Air Force as a radar technician.
Hatch was largely self-taught in electronics engineering and obtained his Professional Engineer license in 1983. He spent his career as an electronics technician and engineer specializing in high-power electronics for industry, including the design and manufacture of induction heating equipment, and was known as a troubleshooter of complex equipment. He never formally retired, continuing to consult and write in his later years. A resident of Vancouver, Washington, he died of natural causes on October 31, 2019, in Camas, Washington, at the age of 88.
Outside of engineering, Hatch was a musician who played in the band The Alpine Echoes, and he enjoyed folk dancing and hiking. He was also an environmentalist concerned with issues of climate and conservation.
Work
Hatch's scientific research began with an investigation into the causes of tornadoes and hurricanes, which led him to the view that gravity operates as an electrical force rather than as a distinct fundamental interaction. In his account, gravitation arises from a residual positive charge on atoms and molecules, with the surrounding space or ether curved or diverged by the resulting electric field. He set out this concept in a 2015 self-published *Research Report* and expanded it in the ebook *A Unified Theory of Matter, Gravity and Electricity*.
His interests also extended to economics, where he examined debt and financial cycles in *Debt Crises, The Cause of Recessions and Depressions*, and to environmental questions in unpublished writings warning of ecological collapse. In 2016 he published an article, "Gravity Simplified," in *Nexus Magazine*.
