Vadim Arkadievich Zhmud (Russian: Вадим Аркадьевич Жмудь; born 1959) is a Russian scientist and engineer specializing in automation and control systems, electronics, signal processing and laser physics. He is Head of the Department of Automation at Novosibirsk State Technical University and a chief scientific researcher at the Institute of Laser Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Biography
Zhmud was born in 1959 in Novosibirsk, Russia. He graduated from the Novosibirsk Electrotechnical Institute (now Novosibirsk State Technical University), Faculty of Automation and Computing Technology, in 1981 with a degree in engineering in the specialty "Automation and Telemechanics." He received the degree of Candidate of Technical Sciences in 1990 and the degree of Doctor of Technical Sciences in 2004 in the field of "Elements and Devices of Computing Technology and Control Systems," and was awarded the academic rank of Associate Professor in 2000.
Since 2009 he has headed the Department of Automation at Novosibirsk State Technical University. He has also served as Deputy General Director of the Novosibirsk Institute of Program Systems and as a chief scientific researcher at the Institute of Laser Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Work
Zhmud's research covers automation and automatic control systems, electronics, radio engineering, signal processing, digital-to-analog and analog-to-digital conversion, sensors and measuring systems, mathematical modeling and optimization of control systems, robotics and mechatronics, and laser physics. He has published more than 600 works, including articles indexed in Scopus and Web of Science, and has served as an editor of research volumes on control engineering and decision making. His teaching covers automatics, modeling and optimization of automatic control systems, radio engineering, electronics, and signal processing methods.
Zhmud is a signatory of an international appeal questioning the theory of relativity:
