Tadayoshi Ohmori is a Japanese electrochemist known for his experimental research on Cold Fusion and low-energy nuclear transmutation. Working at Hokkaido University in Sapporo, he collaborated with Tadahiko Mizuno on electrolysis experiments that reported excess heat and the anomalous production of new elements.
Biography
Ohmori received a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Hokkaido University in 1962 and a doctorate in electrochemistry from the same institution in 1988. He served as a research associate at the Catalysis Research Center of Hokkaido University, where he carried out much of his work on electrochemical anomalies.
Scientific contributions
Ohmori's research centered on electrolysis experiments in which unexpected heat and elemental changes were reported at electrode surfaces. In studies of light water electrolysis using gold electrodes, he and his collaborators reported the appearance of iron atoms together with the generation of excess energy. Further experiments described the formation of mercury, krypton, nickel and iron with anomalous isotopic compositions on or in gold electrodes, and silicon and magnesium with anomalous isotopic compositions in precipitates separated from gold electrodes electrolyzed at very high current densities. These observations were interpreted by Ohmori and his co-workers as evidence of nuclear transmutation.
Together with Tadahiko Mizuno, Ohmori also investigated plasma electrolysis, in which a plasma is formed at an electrode surface during high-voltage electrolysis. Using real-time heat calibration, they reported that the measured heat output could substantially exceed the input electrical power. This body of work is frequently cited within the cold fusion and low-energy nuclear reaction research literature.
