Work
Birks' published work is concerned with the geometrical foundations of relativity and with what the papers describe as inconsistencies in the conventional handling of the constant pi. In Pi in the Sky (2023) and A Geometric Analysis of Relativity (2023), both appearing in the Journal of Physics & Optics Sciences, Birks examines relativistic derivations — including the right-triangle construction commonly used to interpret the Michelson–Morley experiment and to derive time dilation — and argues that these constructions contain internal contradictions.
In the 2024 short communication The Triangles of Pi, written with D. Birks, the argument is made that treating the circumference of a circle and its radius as directly comparable lengths amounts to what the paper calls a "mathematical transgression" of mixing unities, and a triangle-based reinterpretation of the relationship expressed by pi is offered.
