Robert William Twombley is an American naturalist, field herpetologist, and nature photographer based in Apple Valley, California. His interests span biology, herpetology, wildlife conservation, entobiology, cryptozoology, field exploration, and astronomy and cosmology.
Biography
Twombley is based in Apple Valley, California, in the Mojave Desert region of Southern California. A self-described naturalist, he is active in citizen science and documents amphibians, reptiles, and other wildlife through field observation and nature photography. He is a longtime contributor to the online biodiversity platform iNaturalist, where he records observations of the flora and fauna of the American Southwest.
Work
Twombley's principal field of activity is herpetology, the study of amphibians and reptiles, with a particular focus on the herpetofauna of the American Southwest. He is a member of the Southwestern Center for Herpetological Research (SWCHR), a non-profit organization dedicated to the natural history, biology, taxonomy, conservation, and field study of reptiles and amphibians native to the region. Within SWCHR he has served as chair of the Conservation Committee and has contributed to the organization's publication, the SWCHR Bulletin.
Alongside herpetology, Twombley maintains interests in wildlife conservation, cryptozoology, field exploration, and astronomy and cosmology.
