Biography

Rubin worked in outside sales in the optical industry from 1985 to 1997. In 1987 she developed a personal-development coaching method that she called "Core Connection." For approximately 18 years she operated Mira Images, Inc., a training center in the Philadelphia area specializing in the design and development of interactive, e-learning, print and web content, with a focus on digital publishing, curriculum development and workflow optimization. Through Mira Images she provided training and courseware to clients including the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Pearson VUE, the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Lockheed Martin, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the U.S. Department of the Navy.

In November 2017 Rubin transitioned her career toward environmental and sustainability work. In April 2018 she co-founded Sustainability Now, an initiative and podcast dedicated to exploring emerging technologies and paradigms related to food, energy, housing, water, waste, health and consciousness. She serves as co-founder and host of the associated podcast, describing her role as a "Visioneer" and coach.

Work

As an Adobe Certified Instructor, Rubin taught InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, Flash, Dreamweaver and Captivate, and performed technical writing for Adobe. She authored two texts on interactive design and digital publishing: Interactive InDesign CS5: Take Your Print Skills to the Web and Beyond (Focal Press, 2010) and Interactive InDesign CC: Bridging the Gap Between Print and Digital Publishing (Elsevier, 2013). Her books address the production of interactive documents and the bridging of print and digital publishing workflows.

Through Sustainability Now, Rubin has promoted the exploration and adoption of sustainable and alternative technologies, including discussions of alternative energy sources, zero point energy concepts and water desalination as approaches to addressing global resource and environmental problems.
