Mathew Whitney (born c. 1975) is an American independent inventor based in Ithaca, New York. Working outside conventional academic and industrial institutions, he has promoted a series of proposed energy and propulsion concepts, most prominently a rotary "free-energy" machine he calls the Closed Loop Implosion Turbine.
Biography
Whitney is a self-taught inventor who has developed and publicized his ideas independently rather than through a university or corporate research program. He lives in Ithaca, New York, and has circulated his work through self-published writing, internet postings, and online video. His inventions and claims first drew wider public attention in 2012 through local news coverage in Ithaca.
Work
Whitney's best-known project is the Closed Loop Implosion Turbine, a device he describes as a "geomimetic" machine—one intended to imitate natural vortex phenomena such as tornadoes and whirlpools. He has said the concept builds on the earlier work of Nikola Tesla and the Austrian naturalist and inventor Viktor Schauberger, whose "implosion" theories of water and air movement Whitney cites as inspiration. He has presented the turbine as a means of generating and transmitting energy at very low cost.
