Kongpop U-yen is a Thai-American electrical engineer and independent researcher based in Arlington, Virginia. He is an engineer at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center and is known within alternative-physics circles for his work relating Electric Universe and space-weather ideas to the forecasting of natural disasters.
Biography
U-yen earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2007. As a professional engineer, he works at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, where his research has focused on microwave engineering and superconducting devices, including superconducting microwave resonators and filters used in ultrasensitive detectors. He is an author or co-author of dozens of technical papers and holds several patents. He received the NASA Robert H. Goddard Engineering Award in 2014, and the Science & Technology Advancement Award from NASA Goddard's Applied Engineering and Technology Directorate in 2011 and 2017.
Work
Outside of his professional engineering career, U-yen conducts independent research as an Electric Universe and space-weather enthusiast. He argues that solar activity is strongly correlated with abrupt weather conditions and tectonic activity, including storm formations, flash floods, volcanic activity and earthquakes. Drawing on simple electrical theories based on laboratory experiments and on the electrical properties of the Earth, he has developed a natural-disaster forecasting technique based on the physical and electrical interactions between the Earth and its surrounding space, which he proposes can be used to forecast earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and storm formations. He presented "Evidence of Space Weather Induced Natural Disasters" at the Electric Universe 2014 (EU2014) conference and "A Natural Disaster Forecasting Technique Based on Space Weather Data" at EU2016, both organized by The Thunderbolts Project.
