José Paulo Hansen is a Brazilian engineer and independent researcher based in Curitiba, Paraná, Brazil. He is known within dissident-science circles for developing what he calls the Quantum Impulse Theory ("Teoria da Impulsão Quântica"), a proposed alternative interpretation of physical phenomena that questions aspects of relativity and quantum mechanics as conventionally taught.
Biography
Hansen graduated as an engineer from Mackenzie University in São Paulo and later pursued a specialization in physical chemistry in France. Over a career of more than twenty years he worked for industrial companies founded by noted scientists, including Aktiebolaget Gas Accumulator (AGA), founded by the Nobel physics laureate Gustaf Dalén, and Linde Gas, founded by Carl von Linde. In the course of this industrial work he was involved with the refining of uranium by gaseous diffusion. He has produced numerous scientific and technical publications in Brazil and abroad, and now resides in Curitiba.
Work
Hansen's principal body of work centers on his Quantum Impulse Theory, which he presents as a causal account of physical phenomena intended as an alternative to what he terms "pre-established physics." Across a series of papers and books he argues that certain experimental results are inconsistent with the standard interpretations of relativity and quantum mechanics, and he applies his framework to topics such as the inertial velocity of photons, gravitational waves reported by LIGO, and the apparent diameter of the black hole in the galaxy M87. His conclusions are not accepted within the mainstream physics community.
