Jordan Root is an American mineral collector, dealer, and educator based in Gainesville, Georgia. He is the founder of Natural Selection Crystals, a business specializing in the sale, trade, and study of fine mineral specimens, crystals, gemstones, and fossils. His interests connect the study of minerals to broader questions in geology and the Electric Universe model of Earth's surface formation.

Biography

Root established Natural Selection Crystals in 2006 at the age of sixteen. What began as a personal hobby developed into a full-time career in the world of mineralogy. Working from Gainesville, Georgia, he built the enterprise into a retail and educational venture serving mineral collectors ranging from beginners to advanced enthusiasts. In 2016, fellow collector Christina Choate joined the business as a co-owner.

Work

Through Natural Selection Crystals, Root offers fine minerals to collectors and provides a range of related services, including mineralogical education, collection assessment and advising, professional specimen photography, mineral trimming, and specimen cleaning, with a particular focus on halides and sulfides. He also speaks on mineralogical topics.

Root regards mineral specimens as both aesthetic objects and long-term investments, and he has expressed the view that the study of minerals introduces collectors to principles of physics through the processes, science, and circumstances of their formation. His work has been associated with Electric Universe approaches to geology and minerology, which propose that electrical processes played a significant role in shaping the surface of the Earth.
