Gregory V. Meholic is an American aerospace engineer specializing in advanced propulsion, based in El Segundo, California. He is a senior project leader at The Aerospace Corporation and is the originator of the "Tri-Space" theory, a conceptual framework addressing the physics of faster-than-light travel and the structure of spacetime.
Biography
Meholic holds a Master of Engineering degree and has worked for decades within the advanced propulsion research community. He serves as a senior project leader at The Aerospace Corporation, headquartered in El Segundo, California. Within the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), he has been a Distinguished Lecturer and a former Chair of the Nuclear and Future Flight Propulsion Technical Committee.
Scientific contributions
Meholic is best known for developing the Tri-Space Model of the universe. The model is based on the premise that the mathematics of special relativity describe a symmetrical continuum supporting three independent spacetimes, each with its own set of physical laws distinguished by the ratio of velocity v to the speed of light c. In this framework, reality is divided into three regimes: a subluminal realm containing matter moving slower than light, a light-speed realm associated with the massless photon, and a superluminal realm inhabited by hypothetical faster-than-light entities such as tachyons. Meholic has presented the Tri-Space concept as a possible approach toward a grand unified theory and as a mechanism for transitions between subluminal and superluminal speeds.
His independent research on faster-than-light travel and the construct of spacetime has been the subject of several conference papers, including "Unlabored Transitions between Subluminal and Superluminal Speeds in a Higher Dimensional Tri-Space" (AIP Conference Proceedings, 2008) and "Beyond the Light Barrier: A Concept for Superluminal Travel."
The Tri-Space theory was adopted by author Christopher Paolini as the basis for the faster-than-light propulsion system in his science fiction novel To Sleep in a Sea of Stars; Meholic contributed graphic material for the novel's appendix and reviewed portions of the text for scientific accuracy.
