"On the Field Equations Governing the Origin and Evolution of Compactified Hyper-dimensional-energy Universes" is a 72-page unpublished paper of 2003 by Robert E Var, setting out what he calls hyper-energy theory. It is the most developed statement of a programme he began with his "space-energy theory" in Foundations of Physics in 1975.

Summary

Var proposes that space is not empty but a physical medium carrying an enormous intrinsic energy density, and that gravity is — following a gravitation theorem he attributes to Maxwell (1864) — a local reduction of that energy density caused by the presence of mass. From this single idea he builds a sequence of three increasingly general gauge-field theories:

  • a velocity-dependent "w-gauge" theory, which he argues reproduces special relativity while reinterpreting gravity as the flow of the space-medium;
  • an "Einstein–Maxwell" tensor theory, which he presents as a quantizable version of gravity harmonized with special relativity and offered as a solution to the quantum-gravity problem; and
  • hyper-energy theory itself, a many-dimensional extension in which the universe is a compressible, inviscid medium of mass-energy with extra "compactified" dimensions sourced by the flow of time.

He then sketches how the theory might account for big-bang-driven creation, cosmic inflation and Hubble expansion, the generation of the elementary-particle spectrum through symmetry breaking, and the physical nature of time and of superstrings. The paper is unpublished and its claims are outside the scientific mainstream.

Abstract

Twentieth century science produced a clear need for a universe theory (UT) with an inherent capacity to explain how compactified hyper-dimensional universes are explosively created and sustained. Space-energy theory, in R. Var, Foundations of Physics 5, 3 (Sept. 1975, pp. 407–431), offered an embryonic (1 + 4)-dimensional candidate for such a theory. Here I derive a definitive (1 + p ≥ 4)-dimensional UT called hyper-energy theory as the third of three increasingly comprehensive gauge-field theories (GFT1–3) which are derived from the physical implications of a gravity theorem that Maxwell published, along with his electromagnetic field theory, in 1864, stating that gravity is a mass-induced reduction of an enormous intrinsic energy density, ∈m, that characterizes the space-medium. GFT1, called w-gauge theory, yields five ways that particles couple to ∈m via a single coupling-strength function, l = 1/[1 − w²]½, of their propagation velocity w, in order to conserve their energy and momentum. GFT1 is shown to cover special relativity theory while introducing two claimed discoveries: (a) the flow velocity u of ∈m is a locally unobservable 3-vector-potential of the two previously disparate kinds of gravity referred to as matter-gravity and 'elevator-gravity'; (b) the potential of Maxwellian gravity, Φm, provides fluid explanations for the potential of Newtonian gravity and for the black holes and gravitational red-shifts deduced from general relativity theory. GFT2 is a (1 + 3) tensor generalization of w-gauge theory drawn from Einstein's general relativity by employing l to give the differential ds a specific form, causing the resulting Einstein–Maxwell (EM) gravity theory to be harmonious with w-gauge theory and thus Maxwell's gravity theorem. EM gravity is then argued to be a readily quantizable solution of the long-standing quantum-gravity problem. Hyper-energy theory (GFT3) is deduced as being — to a first approximation — nothing more, and nothing less, than a (p − 3)-dimensional extension of the (1 + 3)-dimensional laws governing the dynamics of an abstractly continuous (non-particulate) medium of compressible and inviscid mass-energy. The author then presents qualitative, multi-big-bang solutions of the hyper-energy field equations offered as accounting for: (a) compactification and the structure of ∈m; (b) the inflationary and Hubble expansion phases; and (c) the unifying role of a soliton Higgs-field in determining cosmological particle generation, Maxwell's gravity theorem, the propagation of particles and their de Broglie waves, the elementary-particle spectrum, and the physical nature of both time and superstrings. On this account a single, multi-component, super gauge-field representing the flow of time — which controls particle structures and interactions through its various symmetry breakings — is identified as the (1 + p)-dimensional flux of hyper-energy through the expanding and compactified 3-space of this universe.
