Karol Szostek is a Polish researcher known for developing, together with Roman Szostek, the Special Theory of Ether (STE), an alternative to Einstein's Special Theory of Relativity. He is listed in The Worldwide List of Dissident Scientists.

Karol Szostek is affiliated with the Rzeszów University of Technology in Poland, where his research profile lists him in the Department of Fluid Mechanics and Aerodynamics. With Roman Szostek he is the co-author of the Special Theory of Ether, which posits a universal (privileged) frame of reference — an "ether" — in which the universe is embedded.
Within the STE, the authors re-derive the kinematics and dynamics of moving bodies from the assumption of a universal frame of reference, and argue that phenomena usually attributed to Special Relativity (such as length contraction and the constancy of measured light speed) can be explained instead by physical contraction of bodies and by the properties of light clocks. They contend that this framework accounts for why experiments such as the Michelson–Morley and Kennedy–Thorndike experiments failed to detect the ether, and they propose a method for determining the velocity of the Solar System relative to it. The authors explicitly claim that Special Relativity is incorrect, a position that lies outside the scientific mainstream.
