Emilio Casuso Romate is a Spanish astrophysicist associated with the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias, known for work on galaxy formation and chemical evolution and for a heterodox treatment of dark matter and dark energy. He is listed in The Worldwide List of Dissident Scientists.
Work
Casuso has published mainstream research on gas accretion, star formation and the chemical evolution of galaxies, much of it in collaboration with the astronomer John E. Beckman. In this work he examines how metal-poor neutral hydrogen accreting onto the Galactic disc shapes its observed chemical evolution.
His inclusion in the dissident directory stems from the paper "Dark Matter and Dark Energy: Breaking the Continuum Hypothesis?", co-authored with Beckman and published in the journal Progress in Physics in 2006. In it he argues that many astrophysical systems are essentially discontinuous rather than continuous, and develops a fractional-integral, deterministic and "projective" method that, he proposes, can account for phenomena usually attributed to dark matter and dark energy without assuming a continuous space-time medium. This proposal lies outside the standard cosmological framework.
