Emil Falkner is an independent researcher known for an alternative theory of gravity based on a revived luminiferous ether. He is listed in The Worldwide List of Dissident Scientists.
Work
Falkner has published a series of papers through the General Science Journal, including "Empirical Theory of Gravity," "Structure of the Luminiferous Ether" and related titles. He proposes that gravitational effects are produced by the properties of an ideal, massless, flexible and immovable medium he calls a "vector liquid," in which disturbances are created in proportion to the mass of each elementary particle. In his account, two masses affect the surrounding medium so that a "negative pressure" develops in the region between them, forcing them toward one another, and only disturbances of the medium such as photons can be affected by centrifugal force.
He also argues, contrary to the standard interpretation of the Michelson–Morley and related experiments, that at least two distinct ethers are required to account for physical phenomena. These proposals lie outside the scientific mainstream.
