Edward J. Zampino is a researcher associated with NASA's Lewis Research Center (now Glenn Research Center) known for a theoretical study asking whether a higher-dimensional "hyperspace" could physically exist and support faster-than-light travel. He is listed in The Worldwide List of Dissident Scientists.

Work

In a 1997 NASA technical report, "Can a 'Hyperspace' Really Exist?", Zampino examined the possibility of faster-than-light motion through a higher-dimensional space, focusing on the properties of a four-dimensional Euclidean space. He presented calculations for the relativistic momentum and energy of a free particle in a Euclidean "hyperspace" and argued that, in such a representation, a time "compression" effect would appear in place of the usual relativistic time dilation. The report frames the addition of a fourth spatial dimension as producing a number of unusual effects relative to standard Minkowski space-time. The work lies outside the mainstream of relativistic physics and is presented as an exploratory theoretical exercise.
