Eddie A. Sines is an inventor known for a proposed "direct energy conversion" method that seeks to generate electricity from the static magnetic flux of a permanent magnet by optically modulating vortices in a Type II superconductor thin film. He is listed in The Worldwide List of Dissident Scientists.
Work
Sines is the named inventor on a series of United States patents and applications titled "Method and apparatus for direct energy conversion" (published application US2009/0315337, and granted patents US8,736,085 and US9,080,557). The design combines properties of Type II superconductor thin films, including the Meissner effect, to create and control magnetic vortices that modulate static flux coupled in a magnetic circuit. According to the patents, the laws of electromagnetic induction are then used to produce an electrical signal without moving armatures, with the flux modulation driven by suppression of superconductivity through external photon (laser) irradiation delivered via fiber optics. The patents were later assigned to AQEDD, Inc.
His work has been discussed in the new-energy publication Infinite Energy. Claims of net energy production from such static-magnetic schemes lie outside the accepted framework of thermodynamics and mainstream physics.
