David B. Smith (also known online as davesmith_au), based in Queenstown, South Australia, is an Australian independent researcher with an interest in Cosmology, particularly Plasma Cosmology and Electric Universe theory.
Biography
Smith has a varied work history, with experience in the paper, timber, mining exploration, and power generation industries, among others. After retiring on a disability pension, he devoted his time to supporting Electric Universe and Plasma Cosmology organisations, most notably The Thunderbolts Project.
Within The Thunderbolts Project, Smith served as Managing Editor of the organisation's "Thunderblogs" and provided technical support, website development and hosting, and administration for the project's online forum. He has also been associated with the Alternative Science and Technology Research Organisation of South Australia (ASTRO SA), which has hosted Electric Universe events in Adelaide.
Scientific contributions
Smith is best known for his 2009 study of the loss of the Space Shuttle Columbia (STS-107) in 2003. In the work, titled "Megalightning and the Demise of STS-107 Space Shuttle Columbia – A Fresh Look at the Available Evidence," he compared published materials from the Columbia Accident Investigation Board (CAIB) report with other sources, examining the official foam-strike explanation alongside the hypothesis that a "megalightning" electrical discharge during re-entry may have contributed to the disaster. Smith presented the analysis as a comparison of available evidence rather than as a definitive conclusion, and he considered the possibility of an electrical circuit connecting Earth to space, consistent with Electric Universe ideas.
Smith has also lectured on Electric Universe theory, including an introductory video presentation delivered in 2010.
