Work
With co-authors Xinghua Li and Yanshen Wang, Liu published "A covering theory of special relativity" in Physics Essays (Vol. 24, No. 2, 2011; also posted as arXiv:1112.0668). The paper works from an assumption the authors call "closed-path velocity of light invariant" and derives generalized Lorentz transformations between ordinary inertial reference frames and a privileged (absolute) reference frame. From this they conclude that the relativity of simultaneity is not a universal concept. This proposal, which reintroduces a preferred frame, departs from the standard interpretation of special relativity.
