Daniel Michael Beal is an American psychiatrist based in Cincinnati, Ohio, who is known within the alternative-science community for his work on the Science of Consciousness and, in particular, for proposals linking the origin of consciousness to panspermia. He is listed in the Worldwide List of Dissident Scientists.

Biography

Beal graduated from the Ohio State University College of Medicine in 1975 and completed his residency training in psychiatry at SUNY Upstate Medical University. He is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Beal has practiced as a psychiatrist for more than fifty years, working with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, and has been affiliated with the Cincinnati VA Medical Center as well as the VA Palo Alto Health Care System. He has also been associated with the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.

Work

Beal's clinical career has been in psychiatry, but he is also known for interdisciplinary work on the nature of consciousness. He presented a paper titled "Panspermia and Consciousness" at The Science of Consciousness (TSC) conference organized by the University of Arizona's Center for Consciousness Studies in 2020. In that work he explored the relationship between consciousness and panspermia, the hypothesis that the seeds of life are distributed throughout the universe. His participation in the consciousness-studies community and his non-mainstream views on the subject are the basis for his inclusion in the Worldwide List of Dissident Scientists.
