Known for"Zen... and the Art of Debunkery"

Daniel Drasin is a writer, media producer and documentary filmmaker based in the San Francisco Bay Area. He is best known for the satirical essay "Zen... and the Art of Debunkery," and is listed in The Worldwide List of Dissident Scientists.

Zen... and the Art of Debunkery

"Zen... and the Art of Debunkery" began as a paper Drasin delivered at a conference of the International Association for New Science in 1991, and was subsequently revised and expanded in later editions. Written as an ironic "how-to" guide for would-be debunkers, the piece uses satire to criticize what Drasin characterizes as "pathological skepticism," arguing that dismissive tactics are sometimes substituted for genuine scientific inquiry when unorthodox claims are evaluated. The essay has circulated widely on skepticism and fringe-science websites and remains his most frequently reproduced work.
