Chuck Middaugh is an American interactive designer and independent researcher based in Mesa, Arizona, known for his work on Vortex Based Math and for developing open-source software that visualizes its patterns in three dimensions.

Biography

Middaugh resides in Mesa, Arizona, in the United States. He works in web and interactive design under the name MiD-AwE interactive design, and pursues the study of Vortex Based Mathematics independently.

Work

Middaugh's principal contribution is an open-source project for the study of Vortex Based Mathematics and its accompanying three-dimensional visualization, built entirely with free and open source, GPL, and web technologies. The project generates parametric models of the ABHA Torus and renders them as an interactive WebGL presentation in the browser.

The toolchain he assembled for the project combines Blender for the parametric torus models, Inkscape for the torus skin vector graphics, and a web front end using HTML5, JavaScript, jQuery, the ImpressJS presentation framework, and HTML5 Boilerplate. The torus models were released publicly so that others could reuse and extend them, and the project has been discussed within the online community devoted to the Rodin coil and related Vortex Based Mathematics topics.
