Chris Lofting is an independent, self-published theorist known for a framework he calls IDM ("Integrated Dyadic-relationships Metaphysics"), which attempts to derive systems of meaning from brain dynamics. He is listed in The Worldwide List of Dissident Scientists, in the "Critics" category.
Ideas
In Lofting's IDM framework, dichotomies are treated as specialist expressions of a fundamental differentiating/integrating dichotomy that he traces down to the level of the neuron. He argues that classes of meaning can be derived from these brain dynamics through recursion, with successive "rows" of recursion mapped onto geometric forms of increasing dimension. His writings, including the essay collection "Language of the Vague," apply this scheme to psychology, emotion, language and interpretive systems such as the I Ching.
His discussions of physics—expressed in online forums and essays, and reflected in his listing—include commentary on quantum mechanics and on Einstein's discomfort with its probabilistic ("dice") character. These arguments are developed outside the peer-reviewed scientific literature and lie well outside the scientific mainstream.
