Chanah Auerbach, also known professionally as "Chef Raw Raw", is an American raw food chef, nutrition educator and advocate of living-foods nutrition, originally from Denver, Colorado.

Biography

Auerbach was raised in Denver, Colorado, in a family long established in Colorado as meat distributors. In her early twenties she became seriously ill and developed alopecia, losing her hair. After trying a range of conventional treatments without lasting benefit, she found that changes in nutrition and the use of raw vitamin supplements improved her condition. That experience led her to devote herself to the study and teaching of raw and unprocessed foods. She later moved to Israel, where she has worked as a chef and teacher.

Work

Auerbach trained as a chef and combines culinary work with the study of nutrition. She promotes the consumption of "live" (raw, unprocessed) foods in preference to cooked and processed "dead" foods, on the view that the body is able to heal itself when given appropriate nutrition. Her demonstrations and classes have covered sprouting, alkalizing diets, raw honey, raw cacao and juicing, and have featured dishes such as raw almond milk, jicama fries and spiralized vegetable pasta salad.

In her home town of Denver she taught donation-based raw food classes, including a demonstration held at the EDOS congregation. In Israel she brought her living-food approach to the Natural Choice Cafe in Jerusalem, ran a health-oriented cafe in Jerusalem for three years, and served as founding executive chef of Briah Living Foods. She has also worked to establish "Chef Raw Raw's Community Kitchen", later described as an educational kitchen, as a teaching venue for raw food preparation.
