Barry Kenneth Fleagle (born 1945) is an American engineer and surveyor based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and an independent researcher in physics. He is known for a large body of self-conducted optical experiments on the behavior of the photon and for a proposed unifying framework he describes as a Grand Unified Theory (G.U.T. Hypothesis).

Biography

Fleagle was born in 1945 and has worked in the fields of engineering and land surveying. He resides in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, United States. Outside of his professional career he pursued independent research in optics and physics, carrying out and documenting experiments on light and photon interference and publishing his results and essays through online research repositories.

Work

Fleagle's research centers on the nature of the photon and on foundational questions in quantum theory. He has conducted more than a hundred optical experiments, principally involving interference, which he interprets as evidence that the photon is a complex, dynamic system rather than a simple point particle. On the basis of these experiments he questions standard interpretations of quantum mechanics, including concepts of nonlocality and remote entanglement.

From this work he has advanced a hypothesis intended to unify physical phenomena across scales. In it he argues that the strict separation of matter and energy is not necessary, and he proposes that recurring or cyclical patterns can shape the surrounding medium into concentric streams or force fields. He suggests that such a mechanism might underlie a range of phenomena, from sub-atomic charge to electromagnetic fields and gravity. Fleagle has stated that, even if his particular hypothesis proves incorrect, he regards fundamental change in physics as necessary.
