Carroll Raymond Bryan (August 1, 1926 – July 23, 2019), known as Ray, was an American aeronautical engineer and, in later life, an amateur cosmologist who lived in Bedford, Massachusetts. His name is recorded on this wiki as "Carroll Rat Bryan," an apparent mistranscription of his nickname.
Biography
Bryan was born on August 1, 1926, in Little Rock, Arkansas, the son of Carroll Raymond Bryan and Myrtle Aline (Henson) Bryan. During World War II he served for two years in the United States Army Air Corps. He afterward enrolled at the University of Alabama as an aeronautical engineering student, where he also taught a freshman algebra class.
His first position after college was in Hampton, Virginia, at the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA), where he carried out research on aircraft. A fine tenor voice later drew him and his family to New York, where he studied singing while working at Republic Aviation. In 1956 an employment opportunity brought him to New England, and he settled in Bedford, Massachusetts, where he worked in a variety of engineering roles and also performed as a tenor soloist. He died in Bedford on July 23, 2019.
