Ron Forth is a Canadian mechanical and petroleum engineer, author, and amateur astronomer based in the Calgary area of Alberta, Canada. After a career of some forty years in the energy industry, he turned to theoretical physics and cosmology, publishing an alternative cosmological model that he presents as a resolution to several outstanding problems in modern physics.

Biography

Forth holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and spent about forty years working across several areas of the energy sector, describing himself professionally as a petroleum engineer. He lives in the Calgary area of Alberta, and is an amateur astronomer with a longstanding interest in the Electric Universe concept, cosmology, the Ether, energy, and quantum mechanics. Now retired, he has said that much of his cosmological thinking developed during evening walks under starlit skies. In 2023 he published the book The Forth Dimension: A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe through FriesenPress.

Work

Forth's cosmological work proposes replacing the curved spacetime of general relativity with what he calls "contoured four-dimensional space-energy," from which he develops a revised theory of gravity. Central to the model is a variable speed of light (VSL) framework, in which quantities such as gravity and the speed of light are treated as variables that have changed over the history of the universe rather than as fixed constants; in this view gravity was stronger and light faster in the early universe. Forth presents the approach as an attempt to address features of cosmology conventionally attributed to dark matter and dark energy, as well as questions surrounding cosmic inflation, black holes, gravitational waves, force unification, non-locality, and quantum mechanics, and he outlines experimental tests intended to evaluate the hypothesis. He has stated that the book is aimed at open-minded physicists and cosmologists and that its mathematics does not go beyond a high-school level.
