Dilip D. James is an author and independent theorist known for developing "Gestalt Aether Theory," an aether-based account of light and electromagnetism. He is listed in The Worldwide List of Dissident Scientists.
Ideas
James proposes that the universe is filled with "virtual photons" — described as extremely low-energy, nearly stationary electromagnetic dipoles — which form an aether-like medium. In his account, a photon is an infinitesimal electric dipole made up of polarized pulses of energy that possesses wave and particle properties simultaneously, and light propagates by a real photon lining up and sharing its energy with surrounding virtual photons, spreading according to the inverse-square law. He presents the framework as an electromagnetic "theory of everything" or grand unified theory. These ideas rely on a physical aether and lie outside mainstream physics, which does not treat the aether as a real medium.
