David Ash is a British author and lecturer known for a "vortex" model of matter and for books that attempt to give a physical account of spiritual and paranormal phenomena. He is listed in The Worldwide List of Dissident Scientists.
Ideas
Ash proposes that sub-atomic particles, and ultimately all matter, are best understood as vortices of energy rather than solid particles, an idea he traces back to the nineteenth-century vortex theories of Lord Kelvin. From this starting point he argues for the existence of further "levels" of matter vibrating at higher speeds, which he uses to offer physical explanations for reincarnation, life after death, miracles, telepathy and clairvoyance. These proposals lie outside the scientific mainstream and are presented as metaphysical or speculative rather than as accepted physics.
Books
Ash's book Science of the Gods: Reconciling Mystery and Matter (co-authored with Peter Hewitt) presents his account of the "physics of the supernatural"; the work was later reissued as The Vortex: Key to Future Science. He has continued to publish on the theme, including Superenergy and the Quantum Vortex and a number of self-published titles.
