Steve Hummel (also published as Steven Craig Hummel) is an American author and monetary theorist based in Glendale, Arizona. He is known for developing an alternative monetary paradigm that he terms Wisdomics-Gracenomics, drawing on the social credit tradition, and for his writings on economics and money systems.
Biography
Hummel has described a varied working life spanning manual and intellectual occupations, including work as a nurse, a business owner and an educator. He states that he has intensively studied economics and the monetary system over a period of several years, an effort that led to his first book. He publishes his ideas through his self-run blog, Wisdomics/Gracenomics, and self-published books.
Work
Hummel's economic writing centers on what he calls the Monetary, Economic Spiritual Synthesis Theory (MESST), later developed under the labels Wisdomics, Gracenomics and Gracientialism. His work is situated within the social credit tradition associated with C. H. Douglas, which holds that a persistent gap between prices and consumer purchasing power can be addressed through direct monetary distributions to citizens.
Building on this tradition, Hummel argues for what he describes as a "new monetary paradigm" organized around the concept of grace as an economic and ethical principle. His proposals include a universal dividend paid to adults together with a retail discount mechanism intended, in his account, to reduce prices while maintaining producer revenue. He frames these policies as a synthesis of monetary, economic and spiritual thinking rather than as conventional macroeconomic analysis, and his books are self-published works aimed at a general audience.
