Dan Petru Danescu is a researcher and author known for a body of self-published notes on the structure of the electron and the fundamental constants of atomic physics. He is listed in The Worldwide List of Dissident Scientists.
Work
Danescu has circulated numerous short papers proposing geometric and dimensional interpretations of physical constants. His recurring theme is a "dimensional analysis" reading of the fine-structure constant, in which he associates the constant and related quantities (the Bohr radius, the Rydberg constant, the Bohr magneton and the elementary charge) with a helical model of the electron's magnetic field. In this picture the pitch of a double helix is identified with a wavelength linked to the inverse Rydberg constant, and the electron is described as an extended, elastic "knotted" structure rather than a point particle.
Related notes address the history of the Bohr magneton and the Rydberg constant, the evolution of Gaussian units, and symmetry aspects of Compton scattering and the Klein–Nishina formula. His paper "An Interpretation of the Fine-structure Constant" appeared in the Romanian Buletin de Fizică şi Chimie. These proposals lie outside the mainstream account of the fine-structure constant, which treats it as a dimensionless coupling not derived from a mechanical model of the electron.
