Rudolf Vrnoga is a retired theoretical physicist and independent researcher who has written critically about the foundations and interpretations of modern physics, in particular quantum mechanics. He describes himself as an "incorrigible optimist that someday matter and common sense will be returned back in science."
Biography
Vrnoga earned a degree in theoretical physics from the University of Sarajevo. A native speaker of Serbo-Croatian, he has continued his research privately since retiring, working as an independent researcher rather than within an academic institution. He has posted a number of his papers on Academia.edu, and has worked on preparing an English translation of his 1993 book Structures of the Reality.
Work
Vrnoga's writing argues that mainstream physics has grown unnecessarily abstract and counterintuitive, and that deterministic, physically concrete explanations should be restored to the description of nature. In his 2019 guest article "Mr. Schrödinger, Please Leave Cats Alone!", published by the science magazine Beyond Mainstream, he offered a tongue-in-cheek critique of Schrödinger's cat and of the claim that a particle occupies several states at once until it is observed. He suggested alternative arrangements — for example observation through transparent glass or by camera — intended to show that objects retain definite states whether or not anyone is watching, and maintained that "probability related to micro or macro world is only measure of our ignorance."
