The components of the trailing string's velocity may be subluminal or superluminal, real or imaginary.
Toryces occupy discrete excitation and oscillation quantum states, and matched polarized toryces unify to form elementary matter particles that Ginzburg calls trons: a-trons, the lightest and most rigid, which constitute the aether; e-trons, which form electrons and positrons; and z-trons, the heaviest, which form the cores of nucleons and the singularity. Helyces are produced when a parent toryx drops from a higher to a lower quantum energy state; combining, they yield the radiation particles — photons and neutrinos — that carry energy and, in Ginzburg's phrase, communication between matter particles. Depending on the parent toryx, helyces may propagate at luminal or superluminal velocities, and the interplay of subluminal and superluminal string speeds is what he says keeps both matter and radiation particles in existence.
3-Dimensional Spiral String Theory
The 3-Dimensional Spiral String Theory, presented from 2009, is Ginzburg's unified theory of the universe and is offered explicitly as an alternative to the Standard Model and to conventional string theory. He sets it three goals: to describe the unified structure of the prime elements of the whole universe, including ordinary matter, dark matter and black holes; to demonstrate the possibility of radiation propagating at superluminal velocity; and to uncover the unified nature of the strong, superstrong (colour), gravitational and electric forces. Unification of specially matched polarized toryces produces four prime elementary particles — electrons, positrons, aetherons and higgstrons — which in turn constitute the quantum vacuum, the aether and composite particles including nucleons. Ginzburg emphasises that, unlike string theories requiring ten or more dimensions, his is three-dimensional plus time, and therefore in principle testable by three-dimensional experiment. He also holds that the theory demands a new interpretation of zero, of the number line and of trigonometry.
The unification argument is given its own treatment in The Unification of Strong, Gravitational & Electric Forces (2002) and the 2006 paper on the unification of forces. Ginzburg's claim there is that if the electric charges of the interacting elements are taken to be distributed along circles rather than concentrated at points, then the strong, superstrong (colour) and gravitational forces all follow from Coulomb's law applied to those charge distributions — that is, there is only one force, and the apparent multiplicity of forces is an artefact of the point-charge idealisation.
The Universal Spacetime Theory
In his last formulation, the Universal Spacetime Theory of 2015, Ginzburg makes the ontological claim as strongly as he can: what we perceive as matter, field, gravity, mass, charge and energy are "merely various metamorphoses of polarized spacetime". The toryx, existing in four topologically polarized states, is responsible for all matter; unified toryces form the four kinds of tron that build nucleons and atoms, while the excited toryx produces the helyx and with it all radiation. The spacetime properties of both elements rest on a small number of assumptions, and their physical properties are expressed as functions of those spacetime properties. Ginzburg argues that this solves the century-old problem of unifying the physics of the micro- and macro-worlds.
The same move disposes of dark matter and dark energy, the subject of his 2006 book. Rather than positing an undiscovered exotic substance filling the galaxies, Ginzburg treats dark matter and dark energy as further metamorphoses of polarized spacetime — states of the same prime elements that constitute ordinary matter, differing in polarization and energy state rather than in kind. On this view the dark sector is not missing matter but unrecognised structure in the aether-spacetime the theory already requires, and the aetheron-type prime particles that make up the aether are precisely what the mainstream is looking for under another name. His 2013 book The Spacetime Origin of the Universe With Visible Dark Matter & Energy pursues the same theme.
Steel rolling engineering
Independently of his theoretical work, Ginzburg is a recognised authority on the technology of rolling steel. His Steel-Rolling Technology: Theory and Practice (1989) and High-Quality Steel Rolling: Theory and Practice (1993) became standard references in the field, and he followed them with Flat Rolling Fundamentals (2000), Metallurgical Design of Flat Rolled Steels (2004) and the edited volume Flat-Rolled Steel Processes: Advanced Technologies (2009). Much of this work grew out of his development of computer models for the simulation of rolling and other technological processes, and it is reflected in his portfolio of more than sixty U.S. and foreign patents on rolling mill equipment and process control.
