Ruby Carat is an American mathematics educator, science communicator and advocate for research into Cold Fusion and low-energy nuclear reactions (LENR). She is the founder, publisher and host of Cold Fusion Now!, an all-volunteer media and outreach effort that documents and promotes the field of condensed matter nuclear science.

Biography

Carat earned a Bachelor of Science degree in physics from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and a Master of Science degree in mathematics from the University of Miami in Florida. Before turning to science, she worked as a musician and performance artist. She teaches mathematics part-time at College of the Redwoods in Eureka, California.

Following the 2010 Deepwater Horizon (BP) oil spill, Carat became an advocate for clean energy from cold fusion. That year she founded Cold Fusion Now!, which she has largely self-funded, to build a public presence for scientists working in the field.

Work

Through Cold Fusion Now!, Carat has written more than 300 articles and produced podcasts, video interviews and documentary material on the history of cold fusion and LENR research. Since 2010 she has interviewed many researchers in the field and worked to bring the subject to a wider audience. From 2018 to 2019 she surveyed scientists and technologists in the cold fusion/LENR community to assess the state of research and development. In 2019 she attended the 22nd International Conference on Condensed Matter Nuclear Science (ICCF-22) in Assisi, Italy.

In 2020 Carat co-authored Discover Cold Fusion, an illustrated comic book depicting the early history of cold fusion research, with artist Matt Howarth.
