Donald Roth is an independent United States researcher associated with the aether and "new energy" community, known for experiments that he interpreted as evidence that magnetic fields represent a flow of aether.

Biography

Roth is an independent investigator active in the alternative-energy and aether-theory community during the 1990s. He presented his experimental work to the Institute for New Energy at its First Aetheric Conference, held on July 19–20, 1997, and his results were subsequently reported in New Energy News (vol. 5, no. 4, August 1997).

Work

Roth's best-known experiment used a suspended magnetic torsion beam, essentially a bar magnet hung from a string and balanced at its center. When a strong magnet was placed on a nearby table with one pole directed toward the beam, the beam eventually settled toward the opposite pole after a series of oscillations. Roth reported that, after the arrangement had been maintained for about five days, the magnet could be moved a considerable distance away and the beam would still be attracted as though the magnet remained in place.

Roth interpreted this apparent "magnetic memory" as evidence that magnetism is a flow within the aether: once such a flow is established in a localized region of space, he argued, it can persist there even after the magnet that produced it is removed. These claims are outside mainstream physics, which describes the observations through conventional electromagnetic theory and does not recognize an aether medium.
