Katherine Fitzgerald is a Canadian filmmaker and sound editor based in Toronto, Ontario. A Gemini Award and Directors Guild of Canada (DGC) award-winning sound editor, she is also an award-winning short filmmaker who has become active within the electric universe community through her documentary work on the ideas of Immanuel Velikovsky.

Biography

Fitzgerald has worked professionally in the Canadian film and television industry as a sound editor, receiving both a Gemini Award and a Directors Guild of Canada award for her work in the field. She has taught sound editing at institutions including Concordia University, McGill University, Humber College, and the Directors Guild of Canada.

As a director, Fitzgerald has made several short films. Her 2010 short Bread & Kisses won the National Screen Institute (NSI) Canada Drama Prize and screened at more than twenty international film festivals, including a 2011 presentation at the Cannes Film Festival as part of the National Film Board of Canada program Coups de Coeur – Crazy Canucks.

Fitzgerald undertook graduate study at the University of Staffordshire in the United Kingdom, where her documentary project on Immanuel Velikovsky served as the basis of her Master of Arts thesis.

Work

Fitzgerald became involved with the Thunderbolts Project and the wider electric universe community, attending the Electric Universe conferences as a Conference Scholar beginning in 2014.

Her principal contribution in this area is the documentary The Baby & the Bathwater (2015), which she produced and directed. The film gathers interviews with senior scientists and researchers who knew Immanuel Velikovsky personally, among them Bill Mullen, Dwardu Cardona, and Dave Talbott. Originally conceived as an archival record, the project broadened in scope and became the subject of her MA thesis at the University of Staffordshire. It premiered at the EU2016 conference.

At the EU2017 conference she screened The Baby & the Bathwater in the main hall ahead of the conference's Velikovsky Day panel, and spoke on the theme "Electric Cosmology: The Coming Paradigm Shift and the Voice of Poetry." She subsequently collaborated with Canadian poet and performer Ghada Chehade on Paradigm Shift, a short spoken-word performance film.
