A member of Opus Dei, he was among the first of its members sent to East Africa, arriving in Kenya in September 1960 to help establish the apostolate there. In 1961 he joined the founding staff of Strathmore College in Nairobi, a pioneering non-racial sixth-form college, where he helped design the school grounds and served as its first bursar. He remained associated with Strathmore for the rest of his working life, teaching biology, geography, mathematics, physics, and religion and ethics, and acting as mentor to generations of students. He retired from Strathmore School in 2006 after some forty-three years of secondary-level teaching. | |||

In two studies published by The Edwin Mellen Press in 2014 he argued that money inherited from the ancient world embodies an unresolved contradiction between its role as a medium of exchange and its role as a store of value, and that this contradiction lies at the root of usury and of social disorder. | |||
