WATERTOWN - Richard J. Carey Jr., 44, of 20 Riverside St., Watertown, formerly of Lunenburg, died Saturday at Burbank Hospital, Fitchburg, after a long battle with cancer. He leaves his mother, Priscilla (Morley) Carey of Fitchburg; a brother, Christopher J. Carey of Aptos, Calif.; three sisters, Mary-Pat Capel of New York, Rosamond Carey of Natick and Priscilla Carey of Baldwinsville, N.Y.; a nephew; and a special friend, Kristin Ruggiero of Cambridge. He was born in Fitchburg, son of Richard J. Carey Sr., and lived here for 10 years.
He was a 1970 graduate of Lunenburg High School and earned a bachelor?s degree in computer science from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1974. He studied at the graduate level at Boston University. He was a computer engineer with Motorola, Mansfield, for more than 20 years. He was an avid reader and student of the history of mathematics.
A private funeral service will held in Lunenburg Chapel of Sawyer-Miller Funeral Homes, 763 Massachusetts Ave., Lunenburg. Burial will be in North Cemetery, Lunenburg. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pat Brody Cat Shelter, PO Box 142, Lunenburg 01462.
