Rudolf Gottfried is a German researcher based in Brensbach, Germany, who is known within the expansion tectonics community for his work on the origin and evolution of the Earth and his advocacy of the expanding Earth hypothesis.
Biography
Gottfried lived and worked in Brensbach, a municipality in the Odenwald region of Hesse, Germany. He was active in the international network of researchers investigating the expanding Earth hypothesis, a group that included figures such as Ott Christoph Hilgenberg, Klaus Vogel, Giancarlo Scalera and Stefan Cwojdziński. He was among the speakers at the International Colloquium on Earth Expansion ("Erdexpansion – eine Theorie auf dem Prüfstand"), held in May 2003 at the Mining and Industrial Museum of East Bavaria at Theuern, Germany.
Work
Gottfried is associated with expansion tectonics, an alternative to the mainstream theory of plate tectonics that models the Earth as having increased in size over geological time. In his interpretation, the growth of the Earth is attributed to cosmological causes and to phase transformations of minerals and rocks, rather than to an increase in the planet's mass. He compared the chemical processes of the wider universe with those observed on the present-day Earth in an effort to account for this proposed expansion.
His principal published contribution is the chapter "Origin and Evolution of the Earth, Chemical and Physical Verifications," which appeared in the second volume of Critical Aspects of the Plate Tectonics Theory (Theophrastus Publications, Athens, 1990), pages 115–140.
