			Kent lived in Chepachet, Rhode Island, where he pursued interests in [[climatology]], biometeorology, and mechanical invention. In 1979 he was documented as a local inventor by the Library of Congress as part of the Rhode Island Folklife Project, which recorded a number of the devices he designed and built at his home. Through his editorial work with the American Institute of Biomedical Climatology, he was associated with the study of how climate and atmospheric factors, such as air ionization, affect human health.

			Kent edited the ''Bulletin of the American Institute of Biomedical Climatology'', a publication concerned with the relationship between climate, weather, and biological function. Among his areas of interest was the effect of negative air ions on living organisms, a subject within [[biometeorology]].

			As an inventor, the devices documented by the Rhode Island Folklife Project included a negative-ion producer, a grain feeder constructed from welded fifty-gallon drums, a water circulator designed to keep ponds free of ice in freezing weather, and a raft built from fifty-gallon drums.
