			Turner studied at [[Durham University]] in the United Kingdom and went on to work as a freelance writer and journalist, contributing articles on politics, technology, energy and the environment. He has been associated with environmental and sustainability initiatives, including the Peak Oil project CollapseNet and permaculture and Transition Towns groups in the UK.

			He later pursued postgraduate study in the philosophy of technology, undertaking doctoral research at the Alliance of Civilizations Institute (MEDIT) at Ibn Haldun University in Istanbul, Turkey, where his work centres on the thought of the French thinker Jacques Ellul, the concept of "technique" and dialectical theology. Alongside his research he has worked as a language instructor at Bursa Technical University.

			Turner became interested in plasma cosmology and Electric Universe theory in the early 2010s and published articles and blog pieces intended to popularise the subject. In 2012 he set out a tentative hypothesis relating terrestrial field-aligned (Birkeland) currents to mesocyclone phenomena. He also maintained a blog, ''The Media Discerner'', on which he discussed Electric Universe topics and related matters.

			In his later academic work Turner has written on the philosophy of technology. His article "The internet as a sacred and irrational space within the Ellulian milieu of 'technique'" was published in the journal ''Explorations in Media Ecology'' in 2022, examining whether digital "virtuality" constitutes a distinct milieu within Ellul's framework of technique.
