			* '''Translational case.''' When the same system is moved in a straight line, ''no'' induction occurs, even though the field and speeds are comparable. Müller explains the difference through what he calls the '''"edge effect"''': the transversal edges of the magnet. In rotation the velocities run tangential to those edges, whereas in translation they have components perpendicular to them, producing motional effects equivalent to a negative ''V''×''B'' that cancels the positive ''V''×''B'', giving zero net induction.

			From this, Müller designed a decisive experiment. By cutting a ring magnet in half and joining rectangular magnets into a '''continuous magnetic system that avoids all transversal edges''', he found that slightly displacing the magnet halves produced a real induction along the conductor OR — '''where special relativity predicts none'''.
