'''Dmitri P. Kharakoz''' was a Russian biophysicist who headed a laboratory at the Institute of Theoretical and Experimental Biophysics of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Pushchino. His mainstream research concerned the compressibility, hydration and volumetric properties of proteins and lipid membranes, studied by densitometric and ultrasonic methods. He is listed in ''[[The Worldwide List of Dissident Scientists]]'' for his collaboration on the disputed "cosmophysical effects" research programme.

==Work==
Kharakoz co-authored, with Simon E. Shnoll and colleagues, work reporting that the fine structure of histograms built from measurements of the alpha-activity of {{sup|239}}Pu changes in characteristic ways correlated with astronomical events. Their 2011 paper in the fringe journal ''Progress in Physics'' argued that these histogram shapes show a tendency to change in a similar manner at the moments when the Sun, the Moon, Venus, Mars and Mercury intersect the celestial equator. The claimed periodicities (including a sidereal-day period) and their proposed dependence on the direction of the measured particle flux are interpreted by the authors as evidence of an anisotropy of space, a position outside the accepted physical understanding of radioactive decay as a process independent of external astronomical conditions.
