Feng, he developed thin-disk gravitational models that seek to reproduce the observed flat rotation curves of spiral galaxies by balancing Newtonian gravitational and centrifugal forces within a rotating disk, rather than assuming a spherically symmetric halo of unseen matter. Their models numerically solve for the mass distribution required to match a measured rotation curve, and conclude that the flat rotation profiles correspond to mass density that decreases approximately exponentially from the galactic center, with relatively more ordinary baryonic mass in the cooler outer regions of a galaxy.

			Gallo and Feng argue that describing a rotating disk galaxy with a spherically symmetric mass model can lead to erroneous conclusions, and they present their disk-based analysis as an alternative to the hypothesis of large amounts of non-baryonic dark matter. Related work by Gallo has also proposed a spiral galaxy model incorporating an axial plasma or gas vortex.
