==Overview==

The book sets out Veinik's '''generalized thermodynamics''' — an attempt to extend the concepts of classical thermodynamics (intensities and "extensors," generalized forces and coordinates) to a much wider class of physical processes. This programme later led Veinik to his controversial theory of "chronal fields" and "chronons," in which he treated time itself as a physical field carried by particles — ideas that became influential in the Soviet/Russian "torsion field" and time-physics currents but were not accepted by mainstream physics.

==About the author==

Albert Iozefovich Veinik (1919–1996) was a Soviet and Belarusian thermal physicist and metallurgist, a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the Byelorussian SSR and the author of some twenty monographs, best known later in his career for his "thermodynamics of real processes" and his chronal-field theory of time.
