==Biography==
Kupryaev was born in 1962 in Kuibyshev Province (now Samara Oblast), Russia. In 1994 he completed his doctorate in physics at Samara State University. He subsequently joined the Samara Branch of the P. N. Lebedev Physical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (PIAS), where he works as a leading engineer of the "PHOTON" technical group.

==Work==
Kupryaev's research concerns the foundations of relativistic electrodynamics and the interpretation of optical experiments. In his 1999 paper "Extended Representation of the Lorentz Transformations," he proposed a generalized form of the Lorentz transformations in which the measured quantity ''c''<sup>−1</sup> (associated with the time of light propagation), rather than the anisotropic velocity of light, is treated as invariant along a quasi-closed light trajectory. He argued that this formulation accounts for the Sagnac vortex optical effect and for the null result of Michelson–Morley type experiments, and suggested that the approach could be tested experimentally through the transverse [[Doppler effect]].

He developed related ideas in his 2001 paper "The Sagnac Vortex Optical Effect," which examined the propagation of light around a closed contour in a rotating frame of reference. His publications address questions of superluminal signal velocities and causality in connection with these generalized transformations.
